CANON CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Sonia Strumm
Canon: MegaMan Star Force
Backstory: Here.
Personality: If one was asked to describe the famous idol Sonia Strumm in a single word, "sunny" would probably be a good choice. Cheerful, energetic, and friendly, she goes through life with a spring in her step and a smile on her face. She's not at all above some playful teasing here and there, but it's all done in good fun and with no ill intent. Her passion for music is plain to see, for she puts her heart and soul into every performance.
With all that said, however, what few seem to recognize is that Sonia is just a young girl — a young girl who recently lost her only family, at that. Even beyond the extent a child would be expected to cling to their parental figures, Sonia's mom was literally all she had in her life, and her loss was a truly devastating blow. With her gone, Sonia's lack of any real friends her age and the fact that her manager, the only guardian she had left, cared only about the money she could make him left her a very sad, very lonely child with no better way to cope than to try and bury those feelings beneath smiles and cheer.
That loneliness made her an easy target for the FM-ian Lyra, who appeared to Sonia when she was at her lowest and promised her the power to protect her song and by extension her mother's memory from those who would 'dirty' it: first her manager, then the fans. It was finding a kindred spirit in Geo Stelar, who had suffered a similar trauma in the disappearance of his father, that brought her to her senses and helped her realize that the last thing her mom would want was for her to use her music to hurt people. Having made her first true friend, Sonia resolved to find herself and the strength to move on with her life.
Ultimately, she returned to her career not even two months later because she knew so many people loved her music, and when you get right down to it, that's the core of Sonia's character: she is someone who strives to make other people happy. Though the trials of her life have at times tested it, she has always had a kind heart. She deeply values her friends and will go to great lengths to keep them safe. She won't even hesitate to put her life on the line; with Lyra's power, she's more than ready to throw down when she must.
She's a pretty humble person, too. Being quite possibly the nation's biggest star hasn't given her a big head at all — on the contrary, she sometimes seems to forget just how famous she is. At one point she almost causes a riot of rabid fans in Geo's hometown by dropping by unannounced to see him. She never takes her fans for granted and always appreciates their support.
AU INFORMATION
AU Character Name: Misora Hibiki
AU Backstory: Born in a Japanese town too small and inconsequential to name and raised by a single mother, Misora Hibiki lived a quiet but happy life. Her mom was a sickly woman, often confined to home; Misora, being frankly a major mama's girl, strove to be by her side and help her as much as possible, eschewing any real social life in the process. In an effort to lift her spirits, she began to sing to her about the sights of the outside world. Recognizing that her daughter possessed a rare talent, the elder Hibiki encouraged Misora's interest in music, and through song the two grew even closer than ever before.
Eventually, a high-profile talent contest was held in a town not too far from their home, and eager to please her mom, Misora decided to enter. Her performance was a massive hit; she wowed the crowd, and an offer of employment as an idol came soon after. Misora was happy to accept and put everything she had into singing, thinking she could make Mama even happier with her success.
Alas, her mother's health began to fail, and within a year, she passed away, leaving Misora despondent. In the absence of any living relatives, it was her manager who took custody of her. Unfortunately, this meant he was free to show his true colors as a vile, selfish man who saw Misora as little more than a tool for his own enrichment. Without even giving her any time to grieve, he pushed her to continue performing. She had little choice but to comply, forcing a smile for the fans even as she lamented the songs she wrote to make her mama happy being turned into a cheap cash grab.
Of course, this couldn't go on forever, and things came to a head when Misora attempted to run away in the face of a major upcoming concert. Despite her best efforts, she was discovered and returned to her manager, and as he furiously berated her, restating his belief that her song was only good for making money, she finally snapped and found herself drawn into his Palace. There, she awakened her Persona and ultimately changed his heart, causing him to recognize the pain he had caused her and relinquish his custody of the girl.
But what then? Faced with the prospect of being taken in by someone who only knew her as an idol, and may very well also wish to exploit her for their own gain, Misora decided that her only recourse was to leave Japan behind entirely, and hopefully her fame with it. With the help of some more experienced Phantom Thieves, she escaped through Mementos to Los Angeles, where she found residence in the safehouse (albeit with some reservations, given the place's ostensible purpose).
She has since wholeheartedly devoted herself to her work as a Phantom Thief, both out of a genuine desire to help people and in an attempt to smother her continued sadness over the loss of her only family.
AU Personality Deviation: The major point of divergence in Misora's development comes with the circumstances surrounding her Persona's awakening. In canon, her meeting with Geo and the subsequent events ultimately led to her coming to terms with her mother's death and resolving to move on. Here, however, there was no such meeting, and while she is freed from her manager's grip she finds no such closure. The resentment that Lyra preyed on and drew to the surface instead continues to quietly fester. Add to that the pressure and the myriad difficulties of finding her place in a whole new country, and it almost goes without saying that her feelings of loneliness and grief are only further amplified. As a result, she's more likely to let flashes of anger and negativity show through.
Yet for the most part she still strives to affect a bright, perky demeanor in her dealings with others and even in her 'Roll' identity, taking all of her negative emotions and packing them away somewhere dark and distant, to be ignored until they go away. Fake it til you make it, right?
...Right?

Social Link Persona:
C: Leanan Sidhe

Minor: Misora is a naturally gifted musician. Even at her young age she is a truly skilled singer and guitarist.
If possible, I'd like her to also have minor-level English knowledge; let's say her mom was bilingual and passed some of it on. Mostly I just don't want her to be totally lost in LA.
Weapon Type: Microphone Stand / Handheld Crossbow
Codename: Roll
Form of Rebellion: Misora's phantom thief garb is based on her canonical Harp Note form. Many thanks to
twistingkage for the design!

Species: Human
Class: Infiltrator
Arcana: The Lovers
Persona: Misora's initial Persona, Lyra, takes the form of a futuristic musical instrument that resembles a cross between a guitar and a harp, its head adorned with a mischievously smiling face. Strong against Electricity but weak to Gun attacks, Lyra has an eclectic set of skills with elements ranging from Electric to Physical to Wind, largely unified by a focus on inflicting status ailments. It can also grant allies buffs through song, but Misora has to focus on performing to maintain the effect. The majority of its abilities are used by playing the guitar, or failing that involve music in some other way.
As a non-combat-oriented bonus, Misora can use Lyra's power to alter the volume of her voice, like a magical microphone.
